An Assortment of Happenings
May. 11th, 2008 12:59 amOn Friday I spent some time with the sibs and the sprout at the Henry Vilas Zoo. Not many animals were out when we were there, but it was a fun outing just the same, and the sprout managed to be completely adorable as usual. He has so many words now, it is amazing to me. He's started to call me by name, and let me tell you, all it takes is one "Johnna" from that lil guy and I am complete mush.
Friday night I took in Lucia di Lammermoor as performed by the Madison Opera at the Overture Center. While it isn't my very favorite work, it was extremely impressive. The famous mad scene is something else indeed. Even from my nosebleed seat in the upper balcony, the emotion and horror cam through. (It also made me what to do something melodramatic and LARPy, involving stage blood, though I don't know what.)
Saturday afternoon found me at the Chazen watching members of Cycropia performing for Circus Day. It was pretty spectacular to watch them swinging around in the museum space, though not nearly as spectacular as their annual Orton Park performances under the oaks. It occurred to me that I haven't been to nearly as many of their shows as I could, something I plan to remedy in the future.
